Herstory Repeats Itself:

Just published my latest written piece on @jadaliyya, “Herstory repeats itself”. Its part of an interesting series of articles called Visuals in 1500.

“Visuals in 1500 is an ongoing series that invites critics, curators, scholars, and artists to utilize a single work of art as a starting point for a larger discussion on aesthetics. In 1500 words or less, these profiles introduce readers to a variety of artists and cultural practitioners and the many trajectories, creative and otherwise, that they are currently exploring.”

About Iraq and Everything Iraqi, but not only by Iraqis.

We want to hear about your first or latest recollections and reflections from the world of Iraq. Whether it was a visit to Baghdad, or a bite into a heavenly piece of Kahee, we are in search of your memories.

Tell us about an Iraqi word that you heard, or an Iraqi song that broke apart your soul into perfectly sized bites of love.

Tell us about the first time you heard of Iraq, or met someone from there.

We want to capture memories of, from, and about Iraq as a means of building a narrative and history that is independent and accessible.

Submissions can be of various lengths, in poetry or prose, and should be sent in no later than March 5, 2013.

Writers with varying skills are welcome.

I was originally selected to be one of the speakers for TEDxBaghdad 2012. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my participation (nothing dramatic!). I heard it was amazing and inspiring and inshallah I can be there in the future. There is nothing I would love more than to share my vision and my work with the people of my native country. Peace to Iraq.
